Life Hacks: Advice for Seizures at Night

If you or your child has seizures during the night, this can be a really scary thing for the whole family. Along with the effect it has on sleep, it often impacts whether you or your child can stay away from home and creates anxiety around bedtime. We asked you what advice you would give to parents going through the same thing, and below are the top tips you suggested.

1. Have a support system and educate friends on what to do if they witness a seizure.
2. Find out as much as your can about triggers for you or your child.
3. Try and have sleepovers at your house, and speak to teachers at school about how you can make school residential trips work for everyone.
4. Request a sleep EEG to assess the level of risk
5. Do some research into equipment that might help: alert watches, heart rate monitors, movement mattresses, alarms or cameras.
6. Reach out for support, there are so many people going through the same thing.
7. Try your best to make sure medication is taken consistently at the same time everyday.
8. Even though it's hard not to, try not to worry. One day at a time - you got this!
